The Starc wine cellar is intended for the creation of expressive and unforgettable wines from the Karst wine-growing region, which tell the story of time and place with every sip. Our vineyards are planted with our favorite vines: Refošk, Malvazija, Cabernet, Merlot and Vitovska Grganja.

Welcome to the local winery Starc in Tomaj, a village that was the inspiration for Srečko Kosovel's masterpieces. If the wind blows in Tomaj, you will find perfect shelter in our homestead, with a view of the beautiful vineyards.

Bogomil Starc is the first and the only deaf winemaker in Slovenia with various awards that show, that anything is possible if you work hard and believe. He inherited the tradition of winemaking from his father Danilo, who was also a passionate wine lover. The Starc wine cellar was established in 1895 in a karst wine-growing environment.

Teran

PTP

Teran is a red wine made from pure refošk vines. It is a Slovenian indigenous wine, protected by the European Union. Due to the karst soil in which the vine thrives, called Terra Rossa, Teran has a characteristic taste different from other wines. Its wild character is reminiscent of the aroma of forest fruits, it is also known for its naturally increased acidity, so it tends to leave an intense fresh taste in the mouth. Its color is strongly red with a purple undertone. Due to its tannin structure and the soil on which it thrives, Teran wine is believed to be rich in iron and biologically active anthocyanins, so it contains additional health-promoting properties that help prevent cardiovascular disease and cell aging.

Teran goes well with steaks, goulash as well as prosciutto and aged cheeses.

Malvazija

Malvasia is a semi-aromatic white grape vine, found in the Primorska wine-growing region. Malvasia is a full, rounded and harmonious wine with great fruity and floral aromatic potential. Its specific aroma is reminiscent of the scent of acacia flowers, while the predominant fruity flavors are usually those of apple, plum or apricot. Sometimes its aroma can even be reminiscent of mint or white pepper. The wine is full of flavors, known for its discreet acidity.

We recommend it with many fish dishes. You can also use it as an aperitif.

Rosé

Rosé wine is produced from red grape varieties Refošk (Teran), Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Its color is cherry pink and the taste is fresh, with a hint of crispy acidity. Its aroma is reminiscent of flowers, ripe berries, sometimes even watermelon or raspberry. These notes are complemented by herbal aromas and mineral undertones. Rose is a fresh wine that pleases on warm summer days to cool and refresh us.

We recommend it with light salads, light pasta and rice dishes, especially with seafood, raw and lightly cooked mussels, and grilled fish and goat cheese.

TomajskaPenina

Tomaj sparkling wine is made from Teran PTP by the Charmat method. Its color is intense red with a purple tone and fruity character, and the taste expresses the characteristics of Teran PTP and is enriched with the aroma of blackberry and raspberry.

RoséPenina

Rosé champagne, Emanuella named after daughter of Bogomil is produced in the Karst from the Refošk variety by the charmat method. Its specialty is a delicate cherry pink color, fruity aroma reminiscent of ripe strawberries, watermelon or raspberries.

TeranovLiker

Teran liqueur is part of the Karst tradition. We prepare it according to a thoroughly protected traditional recipe. Its taste takes us by surprise with a strong aftertaste of orange, as well as cinnamon, cloves, forest fruits and vanilla. It is suitable for those who prefer gentle liqueurs. We recommend it as an aperitif, it also goes well with various desserts and ice cream
